How We Got Started

Sew Much Fun began with a passion for creativity and a desire to give back to the community. Founded by Lakisha Williams, who has been sewing for over 20 years, our organization was born from the belief that everyone should have the opportunity to learn this valuable skill.

Lakisha’s journey in sewing has been a transformative experience, filled with joy and self-expression. Over the years, she realized that one of the most important aspects of having a gift is the responsibility to share it. Inspired by the blessings she has received, Lakisha decided to create a free sewing class specifically for young people aged 9-20 in Jersey City.

Her vision was simple: to pass on the art of sewing to the next generation, empowering them with the skills and confidence to express their creativity. Sewing is not just a craft; it’s a way to foster self-esteem, problem-solving, and resilience.

By establishing Sew Much Fun, Lakisha aims to provide a welcoming space where young individuals can learn, create, and grow together. She believes that every stitch can help weave a brighter future, and she is committed to paying it forward by equipping the youth with a skill that can inspire lifelong passion and purpose.

Join us on this journey as we empower the next generation through sewing, creativity, and community spirit!
